CAVA GRANDE
Cava Grande è il canyon più profondo e suggestivo dei monti Iblei. Il fiume Cassibile ha inciso per oltre trecento metri le rocce dell'altipiano creando uno degli angoli naturali di maggiore bellezza della Sicilia orientale, habitat ideale per numerose specie vegetali ed animali, un vero paradiso naturalistico. Segni di antichi insediamenti umani sono ben visibili sui ripidi versanti, dove scavate nella roccia calcarea, si trovano abitazioni troglodite, e necropoli. Queste architetture rupestri sono uno degli aspetti più affascinanti del paesaggio e della cultura del luogo.
The Cava Grande is the deepest and most impressive gorge of the Monti Iblei. The Cassible River has cut more than thirty meters in to the bedroch of the plateau. Ponds, waterfalls and luxuriant vegetation have created one of the loveliest natural areas of the eastern Sicily. Indication of ancient human habitation are visible on the lateral slopes where excavation have found trogloditic dwelling and necropoli.
Trekking
Il panoramico sentiero di mezzacosta permette di esplorare il lungo canyon. Una ripida deviazione conduce al fiume, tra le acque fresche e limpide dei laghetti. Un percorso ricco di panorami mozzafiato ed una vegetazione lussureggiante.
This lovely footpath runs halfway down the slope, allowing you to explore the long canyon. A steep turn off takes you to the river and the cool, clear water of is natural pools. It's a trip full of breathtaking scenery in an incredibly lush setting.
Canyoning
Itinerario di speleo canyoning che si sviluppa su un costone roccioso alto un centinaio di metri, dove si trova un importante complesso rupestre composto da oltre cento ambienti collegati da cunicoli e da passaggi aerei ed esposti.
